Hi Armando,Thank you for being a part of Windows 10 Technical Preview testing. It seems that your computer is a Lenovo build.Refer to the following link to understand Disk Partitions in Windows.I strongly suggest you not to touch OEM Partition, Recovery Partitions.
What Is Winre_drv In Spanish
As your windows 8.1 was preinstalled by OEM, deleting these partitions will delete your authenticity of reinstalling Windows 8.1.I would suggest you to contact for a detailed information about these partitions. As these partitions are created by Lenovo, they should be able to provide accurate information. Once you get the information from Lenovo, you may deleteall the unnecessary partitions. To be on safer side, I would suggest you to install Windows 10 Technical Preview on a Virtual machine, which does not need deletion of any hard drive partitions.Hope the information provided is helpful. Do reply, if you need further help. Thanks Babu V and Banaticus for your answers, I apologize for my ignorance in this area but I really want to learn more about this topic. I still have one question but in order to make it easier for you guys to answer my doubts I will create a scenario.Imagine I'm building a new PC, I bought a motherboard that is UEFI capable (UEFI is on the motherboard right? Correct me if I'm wrong please), now I want to install Windows 8.1 (I know my question was about Windows 10 and it still is but let's assume theywork in the same way). When I'm installing Windows 8,1 on a completely new and blank HDD does the installer automatically creates the EFI Partition?
According to what I've read I guess the answer is yes but if I have to do something manually please let me know:)Second question, if I want to install Windows Recovery Enviroment and also a System Image just like the way Lenovo did, do I have to do it manually or Windows 8.1 installer does this automatically? If I have to do it manually is it before, during or afterWindows 8.1 installation? Thanks a lot for your attention and your answers, I really appreciate it:). When I'm installing Windows 8,1 on a completely new and blank HDD does the installer automatically creates the EFI Partition?Second question, if I want to install Windows Recovery Enviroment and also a System Image just like the way Lenovo did, do I have to do it manually or Windows 8.1 installer does this automatically?I don't know for Windows 8, I never paid attention. I can tell you what happened when I installed Windows 10, however.
The first thing I did was to delete all the partitions then install Windows 10. Windows then (as part of the install process) createda 100 MB EFI partition, a 300 MB Recovery partition, and an almost 700 GB partition for everything else.As I understand it, system restore backups don't exist in Windows 10. I've heard that they were removed in Windows 8 and replaced with the File History that only backs up your personal files and doesn't back up everything else.I don't pay attention to that - I usually work and save everything to somewhere in the cloud, so I don't bother with backups of my regular computer. If I have to reinstall everything, it'll be an annoying pain, but it's not really a big enough deal thatI'll start caring about backups any time soon. Banaticus, thanks again for your quick answer, but I don't think you understood my second question, you see, Lenovo has a partition that basically has an image of the Windows 8.1 installer, I guess like having an ISO image and it allows you to reset windows8.1 to factory settings through Windows Recovery Environment. My question is: let's say I want to install Windows 8.1 on a completely new PC and I wanna do the exact same thing Lenovo does, create a recovery image partition (hopefully Windows 10 will work the same way). Is it possible? Is that just for OEMs?
Media shout system requirement. How todo it (if you know)?According to the TechNet website that Babu shared, it one of the recommended GPT schemes (make a recovery image partition) but it doesn't say how.
