Medieval 2: Total War - Third Age Total War Mod v3.0 Part 2 'Third Age - Total War' is a mod for Medieval II: Total War that brings you to the world of Middle-Earth. The Production has been going since March 2008 and the mod is currently well under development and boasts a variety of new features. Third Age: Total War (also refer as TATW) is a total conversion modification for Medieval II: Total War that brings you into the world of Middle Earth.
Thankfully, installing The Third Age doesn't require as much time or effort as lugging a ring to Mordor. All you need is Medieval 2, as well as its expansion pack Kingdoms, and our easy step by step guide.Stage 1 - Preparationa.) Before we begin the Middle Earth transformation, you'll need to ensure you have both Medieval II and its expansion pack, Kingdoms installed. While a clean reinstall isn't required, it is recommended if other mods have been installed, or if you're unsure what version of the game you have running. Uninstall the game, delete any leftover folders, and re-install it from scratch.b.) Once the base game and its expansion pack are installed, it's time to install Kingdom's 1.05 patch.
If you're running a boxed copy of the game, you can simply download the patch appropriate to your version from. If you've downloaded the game from a place like Direct 2 Drive or Gamersgate, they'll have the latest patch available for download from their website. Once the patch has been downloaded, simply run the file and follow the prompts through to completion.Finally, those of you with the Steam version are in luck for once, as Steam's automatic updates will ensure that the game is up to date. To check that automatic updates are enabled, right click on Medieval II – Kingdoms in your Steam games list, select 'Properties' and then the 'Updates' tab.
Ensure that the Automatic Updates box is set to 'Always keep this game up to date.c.) It's recommended that you create a backup of your Medieval 2 folder. You can find out where this folder is located by right clicking the game icon on your desktop, selecting Properties, and then looking at the Shortcut tab - the folder location will be in the 'Shortcut Field'. If you're running the Steam version, this folder will be located at 'Steam/Common/Steamapps/Medieval II Total War'.
Simply copy the Medieval II folder, and paste it somewhere safe, such as the desktop.Stage 2 – InstallationBelieve it or not, the most difficult part of this entire process is already over. The Third Age isn't like other, less friendly mods. It uses a simple installer which handles all of the file placement for you – all you have to do is tell it to go! A.) While that's busy downloading, also grab the Third Age patch from.b.) The mods you're downloading are stored in.ZIP files will require unzipping once downloaded. We recommend unzipping to the desktop for ease of access. (If you're unfamiliar with how to unzip files, should tell you everything you need to know).

If you're a Steam user (or Medieval 2 is installed in a non-default location), you'll have to specify where ME II's new location is during the Third Age installation. The 'Directoy' screen of the mod installation will ask for the Medieval II directory. Click on the '.' Next to the text box, and then navigate to your Medieval II directory (which you would have found during Stage 1 – Preparation). Now that both parts of The Third Age - and the patch - have been installed, you're good to go! Told you it was simple, didn't we?
The mod will have created a shortcut on the desktop - ' - which is now used to launch the mod.Stage 3 – Extra Steps For Steam UsersAfter the earlier bonus of not having to patch the game, Steam users are required to carry out a few more steps. A lot of games that run through Steam require some extra tweaking when it comes to installing mods, and the Third Age is no different. To be able to launch The Third Age, we need to simply rename some folders, to trick Medieval II into thinking it's launching one of its default campaigns, when really, we're launching the mod.a.) After completing both Stage 1 and Stage 2 - installing The Third Age and its Patch - navigate to your Medieval 2 'Mods' folder.
This can be found at 'Steam/Steamapps/Common/Medieval II Total War/Mods'. Inside you'll find four folders, which are the Kingdoms expansion campaigns - titled 'americas', 'britishisles', 'teutonic' and 'crusades' - as well as the Third Age mod folder - 'ThirdAge'.b.) Choose one of the Kingdoms campaigns that you're happy to disable - this is the one we'll be renaming (don't worry, you can always change the name back if you'd like to play it again). Once you've chosen a folder, change its name to something entirely different.
In this example, we'll be renaming the 'americas' campaign – we changed it to 'backupamericas'c.) Now that one of the Kingdoms campaign folders has been renamed, simply rename the 'ThirdAge' folder to the old folder's name. For example, if you're replacing the 'Americas' campaign - as we are in this example - rename the 'Thirdage' folder to 'americas'.From this point on, when you launch Medieval II: Kingdoms via Steam, and hit 'Play', you'll be given the option of what campaign you'd like to play. Just select the one that you've renamed the Third Age folder to – in this case, Americas - and this will launch the mod.

Where exactly did you install it to?Just direct the installer to your Medieval II mainfolder, that would be.SteamSteamAppscommonMedieval II Total War, asuming you have the steam version.It will automatically create a Third Age folder in your mods folder.Then simply rename one of the existing campaigns ( americas - americasoriginal for example ) and rename the Third Age into americas. Really no deletion of existing files should be required.

You fucked up.Reinstall Med2 on Steam and get that shit out of the Americas folder.Literally, all you need to do is download the Third Age parts, run the.exe's for each one and set the path to steamcommonMedieval2mods.Do NOT touch any other folders.You don't even need to move the Third Age parts after you download them (they should work straight from the Downloads folder)Once all of that is done, open Steam, right-click Medieval 2 in the Library. Select Properties, and change the Launch Options to end with the NAME OF THE THIRD AGE FOLDER (under Medieval2mods it should automatically be named ThirdAge3) YOU MUST CHANGE THIS WHENEVER YOU WANT TO PLAY VANILLA MED 2 OR A DIFFERENT MOD!!!After that, you're good to go!.
