Spiderman Duel Of The Hunters

Fallout nv trail carbine rifle. Greetings fellow web-slingers! And so, the epic three parter, with some of the best cliffhangers of the whole show is brought to an end. It's a shame to end it now, but it ends on a high note.Duel of the HuntersIn many ways, this is the last story involving Spider-Man's mutation. Yes, there are still six episodes left in the season and Spidey's more or less cured of his mutant genes. That's kind of a bad thing, and maybe this should have been saved for later, but when the quality's this high, you can't complain.

  • Spider-Man’s horrifying genetic mutation reaches its culmination as he transforms into the Man-Spider. Mariah Crawford summons Sergi Kravenoff, better known as Kraven The Hunter, to help her track down Spider-Man and cure him of his mutation with a newly developed antidote.

Not only does the Punisher return from the previous episode, but Kraven's back as well, this time as a hero, not a villain. This was an interesting idea and to be honest, I actually sort of prefer him as a hero on this show. The version of Kraven seen here is actually a pretty decent bloke who'll do what he can to help Spider-Man return to normal, while the Punisher seems content on just blasting him to pieces.

Of course the big thing to note with this episode is just how little of Spider-Man there actually is in it. For the majority of the runtime, he's in a mutated form dubbed the Man-Spider, a slightly stupid name but I'm willing to go with it. Man-Spider's been as much a part of Spider-Man's history to me by this point as the very bite that gave Peter his powers in the first place, which isn't bad considering it was an entirely original creation for the show. In fact, the concept of Peter turning into a half-man, half-spider monster was so cool it even wormed its way into the comics here and there. The Man-Spider itself has a really awesome design and although it doesn't have any dialogue, its feelings and emotions are still conveyed through visuals, and you can tell that it's still Spider-Man inside the monster's body, which is a really nice touch at humanising a monster. The action scenes are actually few and far between in this episode, and there aren't really any massive fight scenes. Kraven and the Punisher have a few scraps and everyone and their dog seems to want to beat up Man-Spider but overall it's a largely story driven affair, which is a refreshing change of pace, and much needed after the action packed Punisher focused episode.

Speaking of the Punisher, his characterisation is actually very nicely done here: they make reference to the fact that his family was murdered by criminals, and even have a nice visual metaphor for this in the form of a kite that gets shot down by bullets before making a skull image when it lands in a puddle. That's a very cool idea and it manages to be subtle whilst still being effective. He eventually leaves at the end of the episode, but he'd be back. Sadly we also get treated to some more scenes of Morbius moping around about his condition, and even as a kid, after only three episodes I was bored of this story. Unfortunately it goes on for a little while yet, so be patient.

For some people, this episode should have been the climax and I understand where they're coming from, because after this point, Peter's mutation is still a possible threat but it never actually comes to anything again, with the rest of the season split between Morbius, Kingpin and the debut of another villain for the finale. Much like the Alien Costume episodes from Season 1, this may have been better as a finale to the season. You can't go much further than turning Spider-Man into a giant monster really can you?

With that said, this is another fantastic episode, on a par with the previous one. As a trio of episodes, Morbius stands out as the real weak link; it isn't engaging or interesting enough and Morbius as a character is just bland.

The story picks up a lot more in the other two, and the stakes are raised to breaking point. A lot of ups to this episode. Marvel Fanfare Volume 1, Issues 1 & 2 - took me a while to find it again - first time we see Man-Spider, but not the best story there. This series did a considerably better job in my opinion.Yeah, this and the previous episode (which I recall got a Bump in the Animation) were actually in the Middle of the Season. That convinces me that they wanted his mutation woes to be a constant problem, if only for a time, but, it often fell flat for me.Still, Man-Spider was a highlight of this Season - and the Series itself - for me as well.
