Over 16 players, a good multiplayer host, voice chat, game is going fine but we keep noticing slightly weird things like AI Bulgaria, Albania, Poland, Yugoslavia, etc. Declaring wars on player Romania between 1936 and 1938. Someone suggested it was a known bug with the DoD expansion, so we kept playing.By 1938 right after the German player attacked the French player, France told us in voice chat he randomly received over 1000 political power and now had over 90% national unity. A moment later Germany had a communist civil war splitting that player's country in two. Suddenly another player country had 420 political power.Paradox has known cheating was possible in multiplayer matches since vanilla.

One whole year and counting, two laughably shallow DLCs later, and it is still possible to cheat in multiplayer. We put in several blockers and things in 1.4 and accessing console by live editing the game exe should now be extremely difficult. I guess there is a way tho obviously, and one that doesnt out of synch the game somehow? Previously ppl used to out of synch so you can kinda see who is doing it and ban them. If someone knows what program etc ppl use to do this feel free to PM me info about it.of course the easiest fix is just to not play with asshats.fucking Paradox employeeactually, might be too late for that last one.

It's also important to say that much work to block cheating can only be done retrospectively. Similar to the cyber-security industry, you can only figure out some of the ways a person could hack a system, and block those - most of it is done by blocking a pathway after it has been made because you've seen it used.Therefore, it's completely understandable that instances like these slip through the net.

My concern is not about it happening, but about it being fixed as soon as the issue is brought to light - as you've said, you've already put blockers in to help the out-of-sync route people used to use, so as far as I believe you're reacting accordingly and promptly.Maybe some in-game report function that can capture a user's current game files if the differ from the release's, to allow you to pinpoint where the 'cheat' is coming from? Clients all calculate the game in synch with host and if a client has a different state it goes out of synch.

That means the problem of cheaters is technically unfixable (maybe very invasive stuff like punkbuster or heavy DRM would work, but that wouldnt be worth doing with all the downsides I think), what we can do is make stuff harder to mess with. HOI isnt a big competitive game and generally relies on house rules and smaller groups of players so this should be enough. From the report above tho it sounds like there is a way to cheat that also doesnt out of synch you.EDIT: also its cool getting downvotes for giving information to people.
